Laguna Cove. 30 x 24.

The white breakers on the dark sea in the moonlight seem to glow with
a light of their own. 16 Feb 1981 Wilson wrote to Mrs. Van A. Barber,
the purchaser of the painting: A person works very hard and consoles
himself with the thought that if he can communicate with only one or
two people he has not failed in his effort. You can imagine how
difficult it has been at times for me to resist the temptation to
paint what was popular and stick to painting those things that most
move me. …Laguna Cove was painted last year, but I had it in mind
for four years since a visit Roz and I made to Laguna, where I spent
many days and evenings watching the surf off Monarch Point and Three
Arch Cove. Your painting was done entirely from memory in my studio in
an attempt to capture the feeling of the surf in the moonlight.
