An Evening in Late Summer. 48 x 40.
(This) was painted from memory of an evening in the foothills of the
Sandias eight miles northeast of Albuquerque. Actually, we were on a
lot where we are presently building our new home and studio. What
struck me was the transition from golden light in the clouds above to
the purple-gray of the falling rain in the shadows. The whole work is
from recollection and imagination and attempts to convey the feeling
of the beauty of the place. (In a letter dated 23 January 1982 to
Louise Fluche, Fluche Gallery, Tulsa.)
