When the weather comes in from the southeast it hangs a heavy pall of
clouds over the Sandia and Manzano ridges east of the Rio Grande at
Albuquerque, while Mount Taylor, ninety miles to the west, stays
clear. Often at sunset, looking west across the Rio Grande from high
at the base of the Sandias where I live, the western horizon glows in
a blinding golden band.
