Field Study: San Pedro Mountains, 10 x 13
This is an early example of a field study done in watercolor in the
tradition of Constable, Turner and Thomas Moran. When I took these
studies into the studio, I had difficulty matching oil colors to them.
Rather than the study's being my color control, it merely gave me a
general idea, and I "made up" colors for the studio piece. Usually
"made up" colors are too bright, and the painting appears
over-colored. 8-1974
