C Flight Commander, 188th Fighter Squadron, 1997. 32 x 24.

Since Oswald Boelke developed it in 1916, the basic tactical unit for
combat between fighters has been two supporting elements of two
fighters apiece. So, no matter the size of engaging armadas the
commander at the point of actual conflict is the flight commander.
Here is a typical flight leader—one of the many men of such
physical, mental and moral abilities who years on end have guarded us
while we sleep.
