The two-lane road from I-40 south in open country toward Pie Town and
Quemado has features of unsung beauty. Skirting ancient sharp volcanic
flows to the west, yellow sandstone arches, sparsely clad in conifers,
are a bright surprise. At ground level, the formations are
spectacular; imagined from above, they become an eagle's playground.
