Close Support, Troops in Contact. 24 x 24.
This painting is done from visual memory of an air strike in the Phu
Cat Mountains in December, 1968 when the "Cavalry" or 2nd Regiment and
elements of the 1st Regiment of the ROK "Capitol" Division captured an
extensive arms cache of the NVA. A photograph of a planned explosion
south of Albuquerque showed a clear example of the lens effect of the
shock wave of an explosion and I remembered how the world stood still
between when I saw this shock wave and the stinging crack of it as it
hit us. It is amazing how frozen and vivid that image remains! (Form
in Wright-Patterson AFB museum file.)
