Karakalang, in the Taland Archipelago in the Molucca Sea. 40 x 50.

This painting was done from memory. It represents an aerial view of
the southwestern coast of the island called Karakalang, a member of
the Taland group in the Molucca Sea, as it appeared over 60 years ago.
I was with a crew of six in a Catalina Flying Boat searching the East
Indies for survivors and remains of American air crewmen when we
visited these many unknown paradises. During WW II we lost over 400
crews in Borneo alone, and over 1000 aircraft in the East Indies.
During 18 months of searching we found no survivors and returned the
remains of over 3000.
