Santa Fe Peak. 30 x 48.

This shapely peak in the Sangre de Cristo range carries the
unfortunate name "Santa Fe Baldy." I have a healthy dislike for that
name and believe it should be eliminated. That goes for Pecos Baldy,
the next peak north of it, too! Here I have shown the peak as it
looks from the northwest near the town of Espanola when the typical
red light of sunset is on it. The foreground near Espanola consists
of tumultuous humps of pink, weathered sand compacted just enough to
be called stone. Because these sterile, fluted cliffs would distract
from the strength and repose of the peak, I have begun the painting
from a point up in the timber and grass foothills of the range itself.
