Field Study (probably): August Afternoon. 14 x 19 ½.

When I had completed Anvil Top and Towering Cumulus, I thought I had
exhausted this subject, but it was August again, and outside my studio
window this graceful cloud changed my mind. So I painted it out on
the barren mesa north of town. There are so many miracles in the world
that we become used to them. I am always amazed with the beauty of
the one thing that brings water to our desert.
