Each canyon has its mood. In Zion Canyon on a clear day, the shadows
are very dark. It's really dark and cold down in the canyon. Yet
there is a blue light that's almost lavender because the sun hits a
reddish-brown oxide: the reflected light back in the shadows mixes
with the blue coming straight down out of the sky and it forms this
marvelous lavender light. It makes everything look almost like a
stage setting. I like that.
