Field Study: American Falls, Niagara. 12 x 18.

We were at Niagara in the fall. It rained continuously for a week.
In desperation I finally elected to set up and paint in the rain
without the bright lights and shadows that make the falls so dramatic.
The subtle grays and silvery whites seem to reveal more of the
character of the place than the harsher sunlight. (1986)
