Field Study: Nakalele Point, Maui, 12 x 16

A soft rain falls out to sea and the overhead clouds dull the ocean.
Red basalt cliffs jut in broken segments out into the water that
creams turquoise and silver between the rocks. While I did not paint
them, nevertheless, scores of humpback whales were blowing and
breaching while I worked. The clap of their tails on the sea sounded
like cannon, and there were many stupendous belly flops. 3-1987.
