Field Study: La Luz Trail in the Clouds, 12 x 15
For its upper part, La Luz trail in the Sandias skirts the cornice of
the granite cliffs and then climbs through the limestone layers that
line the crest. At about 10,000 feet the clouds move over the trail
and the whole world seems damp and cold with a searching wind coming
up the slope. Once off the mountain, however, all the world is clear
and tranquil with only a small valence of mist obscuring the crest.
The wind-tortured trees are flagged upslope, a fairly common condition
here. 5-1984
