I spent many years preparing myself before I tried this. Yet when I
began it, I found it was not the demands of human anatomy or the
technical problems of drawing that were the most difficult. The
painting came easily and the work was joyful. I found most difficult
the process of simplifying and directing my feelings so I could
express the beauty of another without embarrassment, embellishment, or
further explanation.
