As the sun comes over the Sandias in the Spring it grazes the west
face of the mountain and if one stands at the base of the cliffs and
looks up, all the new grass and green leaves of the scrub oak cover
the mountain in new green and the shadows look purple, while in the
draws the Apache Plume is back-lit to a soft pink.
