Towering Cumulus. 48 x 60.

Here is a mature version of a New Mexico thunder shower, much like the
storm shown in Anvil Top would be several hours later when the small
cumulus columns around its base have become a cluster of storms. By
now, the evening sun is shaded by the air from a hot orange light at
ground level to almost white high in the stratosphere above fifty
thousand feet. These majestic combinations of air, water and heat
blossom, grow and mature in the course of a few hours. They all grow
and live the same way, with similar parts, and at sundown they start
to die. Yet, for all their simplicity, they seem to be some form of
life like a violent and beautiful flower of the air.
