Field Study: Autumn Bouquet. 13 ¼ x 16 ¼

The credit for this painting goes to nature and my sister, Ruth. She
put this jar of oak leaves out on her front porch at Mora, and as I
sat and looked at them I got the urge to paint them. I realized that
all previous still lifes I had done had a wall or drape to close them
of at the rear of the painting. In this case I tried to paint the
bouquet on the open porch with only the jar and leaves sharply defined
in the cool morning light.
