If I had known how cold it was, I would not have tried to paint this
one outdoors. As it was, I could not get the paint out on my pallet,
so I sketched, made color notes and took some pictures. When I got
back inside I found it was 22 degrees below zero. No wonder the snow
looked so crisp and the light was so clear and brittle as it touched
the buttes across the canyon.
